Canada Is Not A Democracy
"Wait! What do you mean? Don't we have multiple political parties?"
It's true that we do, and I understand why you might think that. But don't let that fool you. We have an electoral system that fails to proportionally represent people's voices in government. Under the first-past-the-post electoral system, only the winners are represented and everyone else loses out.
By electing these politicians, we unfortunately make the naive mistake of placing trust in them to serve us. Canada is run by the ruling capitalist class, who seek to maintain their iron-clad control of the country by imposing austerity and other neoliberal measures upon the working class to keep their wealth all to themselves. We don't get a final say in how decisions are made in this country with regards to both domestic and foreign policy. Canada is not a democracy for the majority, it's a democracy for the minority.
